Hi again,
I know, i've been out for a looong time and i have no excuse. Only thing i can mention as an excuse is that i've been working on a new Content Management System / E-shop / CRM / Whatever you want, all in one. You'll see a post in a few days. Hope I'm able to create a paper too (exams season, so i have litterally NO time - Yeah, i'm a student and i try to set up my company... So what?)
Anyway, three months ago, my Mobile (cell, if you prefer) provider offered me a new phone. (I think it would be the less they could do with all these bills i pay every month. We're talking Biiiiig Numbers). I was excited with my old Sony Eriksson K500i. I decided to give the old phone to my sister and keep the new one. I went to the store, and the only phones i could get in those offer were Sony Eriksson K700i (which is probably one of the best phones EVER), Nokia 6101, and some stupid Samsungs (the cheapest models) which the only thing that offer is Direct Voice Calls and SMS. Don't get me started about monthly cell fees in greece and offers. Let's say that with 120-130 euros bill per month, i deserve something better.
Finally I ended up getting Nokia 6101, cuz i've hadn't had Nokia since 3210 (what a classic...) and there wasn't a K700i available in the store or the entire area (fucking bastards). In the time of 1 month, battery started having problems. Now the battery lasts for 1 day, and i'm sure i charged it the right way when i got that phone. It's not my first phone after all. I charge it, and it fills all of its 4 lines. After a long call (let's say 15-20 minutes of conversation with my partner), battery goes to 3 lines. Then it's useless. I have to charge it again cuz in 2-3 hours or 1-2 calls that may last 10 minutes, it will warn me that the battery needs to be re-charged.
This is not the only problem, of course. I forgot that Nokia phones are the worst phones overseas. They are surrounded by the myth of the user-friendly phones... Yeah, for 75yo people that came from a mountain and have never used a phone before it could be pretty easy to dial 911... And they WERE user friendly... in 1995! NO CHANGE since then... All the other utilities are plain stupid. The phone is EXTREMELY slow and NON user friendly.
Let me sum up here:
- When writing an SMS, the "delete" button is also the "previous" button in T9, So, if i make a mistake and i want to delete 1 letter, i have to go back a serious amount of words. Just stupid
- The "Message Delivered" alert, comes as an SMS (for 10 years, Nokia preserves its right to be stupid) and there's no way to delete it directly. I've got to go all the way to SMS Inbox.
- If i want to re-arrange the way that menu is shown, there's no way to do that from the settings menu. I gotta call Sherlock Holmes, to let me know that there's actually a hidden option in the main menu
- Recent Recipients of the SMS messages can be deleted from the missed calls menu. (Did they smoke anything when they were designing the menu?)
- Handsfree has severe problems after the 3 months when it was only used for let's say 2 weeks.
- No Bluetooth, Shared memory (for pictures, sms, contacts list etc) is only 3.9MB!!!!!!!! Hey! It's the year 2006 wiseasses, 60GB is considered like a 3.5" disk. Are you serious?
- There's an annoying PTT button, which is a utility that very few providers offer globally, and NONE provider offers here in greece. Every time i put the cell phone in my pocket this button is pushed. Then if someone calls me, I'm not able to see who's calling, cus the warning "There's no PTT connection available". Of course, there's no way to disable this feature.
Next time i'll buy a phone? I'll go straight to the shop and ask for WHATEVER Sony Eriksson model is available (well, i can't afford 800 euros for a phone, although i'd love to). I know i'll be satisfied. I know it will have 5 times better features than the stupid nokia and of course better support, downloads, accessories and finally it will be more elegant. Unfortunately, this will happen in 7 months or so... but the bright side is that there are going to be more models available.
My advice: If you use your phone once a month, if you're blind, if you want your phone to be completely useless in a couple of months, if you got mental issues or money to burn, by Nokia. On the other hand if you want a serious phone that suits for businessmen, internet geeks, girls, boys, men, women and generally each and everyone, get something that will do. Get Sony Eriksson.
By the way, i never dropped the phone to the floor, or hit it, or pour water on it. It's as good (???) as new.
(PS. I don't work for Sony Eriksson, I'm just a satisfied client that wanted to thrill these excellent cell phones in his blog :D )
